I just got back from a trip to the hardware store to buy some of the last bits for my mash tun conversion. While I was there, I bought some compression fittings, but the copper pipes were way too expensive. They wanted me to buy at least 35 euros of pipe at one time. I told the guy at the store what I wanted to do, and he suggested using some of my silicon hose instead of the copper pipe. Do you guys think this would really work? The fittings I bought look a little different from the standard copper fittings and it appears that they are also designed to accommodate hoses, but still I'm not sure. Do any of you have any input for me?

plastic pipes need to have an insert to prevent the fitting from squeezing the pipe and leaking , copper pipe is solid so will not squash (normally) unless you have the correct size pipe for the fittings and also the correct inserts it won't work . i would get copper from someone else

Actually, I have a correction to make. These aren't compressions fittings -- they are multilayer pipe fittings.

The hose connected to it really snugly and I have a feeling that it is actually a pretty good seal. Do you guys think I should go ahead with this?

looks good , they only question will it expand or go too floppy with hot wort ? try a good amount of boiling water , the last thing you need is it pooping off or leaking on brew day .
