I’m planning a brew day this weekend and Brewfather suggests I use 3 packets of yeast to get the right cell count. CML packaging suggests 1 is enough for a 23l batch. What’s the recommendation? Split the difference?

One should be enough or make a starter if you really want. I have used CML Kolsch and its good and one as always done me, hope this helps

What temp are you planning to ferment at? I spoke to CML about this a while back, and right down at the bottom end of the range (12- 14 degrees) two packs might be advisable in a 23L batch, but higher up one should do. Its cheap as chips, so if you are concerned, pitch two.

I pushed this right down to 12 degrees, IIRC, with 2 packs and got an extremely clean, lager like result, using an fairly simple historic recipe.

Thanks again all, I was looking at the bottom range 15-16 so maybe go with the 2 packets

I always used the CML California Common for my Pseudo Lagers but that was discontinued so I then started using MJ M54 which was just as good. I have a pack of the CML Kolsch to try for My next one.

I used m54 for a Cali common and was impressed, nearly went for that but figured as there a dried yeast for the style I would roll with it
