Cloudy beers?

I seem to be really struggling to get my beers to clears.

I added chitosan finings and even for beers that are quite obviously good to drink, they're cloudy as hell.

Anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong?
 
Too high a temp after fermentation ? Keeping yeast up in suspension

Not giving them time to clear in the final FV ? bottling too early

Not conditioning them long enough in the bottle ? bottles too high a temp ?
 
Or kept too cold?

I seem to have this problem, it goes away when beer warms a bit. Copper finings do not help at all so I learned to live with this. ;)
 
agreed, that's what I call a haze though. Not a cloudy beer. In my limited experience, I've found that's caused by the boil not being long enough or vigorous enough ( I might be wrong )

My reply was for what I class as cloudy beers, due to suspended matter ( yeasts and other detritus )

Your brewing experience is more than mine and I bow to your better knowledge
 
Hmmm... They are pretty cold since the stuffing central heating still isnt working....

I'll see if I can post a pic but to me it looks like suspended matter rather than a haze. This started with a beer I did a while back and even after a billion* years in the keg it just wouldnt clear. I put that down to US05 which is normally a ******* to clear down but this is now with SO4, which normally clears pretty quick.

Torrible Rush is a great drinking beer and its defo mature but its very cloudy....

Yes this cold snap can cause some problems which will only be resolved by the weather warming up slightly, or by applying some outside gentle heat to the bottles. I've had to turn the aquarium heater up a little for the water bath that I keep a brews worth of beer in for a couple of weeks straight after bottling. They usually firm up ok or with just a little warmth. They are taking a bit more at the present.
Bottles I usually put in the warm airing cupboard to firm up are making no headway at the moment, so the water bath has been invaluable.
 
Yes, you are right, mine suffers from chill haze. :)

Comparing to cloudy weizen it wasn't that far off.
 
If all else fails we should brew stouts and porters till the weather is better......... :D :D
 
How clear is the wort going into the fv??
my beer greatly improved after i realised the importance of letting the copper settle before transfering into fv, once the hops settle they become a very good filter and should be able to get a crystal clear wort.

Generally it takes about 30-40mins of cooling which should be plenty of time for the hops to settle....
