I have 2 x 28cm diameter stainless disks about 4mm thick.

The disk is pictured sitting on some mesh and the key is there to give an idea of sizes..

Most of the holes have a little scale in them, it's survived oven cleaner and a good boil in vinegar so its nice clean scale but it has to go.

As you can imagine between the two plates there are literally hundreds of holes.

I can clear the scale off with a round file but it takes time a couple of minutes per hole, its going to do in my file and my patience!

If anybody knows were to get one a tinny wire brush that would go into the hole would be great, ideally something I could mount in a power drill or Dremel.

If you can help at all please let me know, the thought of clearing the holes individually by hand with a file makes my blood run cold.........

Boiling in the vinegar usually should normally do it I would have thought!
You could try Viakal and a nail brush, leave for 10 mins and then repeat until it has gone. Works on my shower head even when the vinegar trick wont shift the scale.

Have never tried the cillit bang, but have heard it is pretty strong stuff, so should also work.

So far the citric acid has done nothing.

Its not lime scale, its some other type of deposit.

How do you get rid of beer stone?

what level of acid you using? is use 1 tsp in 100mls

1/2 A tub of Wilkos best in 400-500ml water, even at low conc there should be some effect. As boiling acetic acid did nothing I have doubts about citric even though it can act as a chelating agent.

Its beginning to look like I'll be removing it mechanically.

If it is truly beer stone then there is a paste that Murphys sell that will remove it . . . but it is pretty nasty stuff. Usually you would get the apprentice to climb into the FV armed with a scraper and a green scourer . . . and let them out when it is clean

My 1st proper Summer job had me crawling into boilers and digging out the fire chambers Oh well and I'm right out of beer :(

pbw will shift beerstone.

took me a while to cotton onto what these are ;) so beerstone is unlikely as that can take a while to build up in a fv.

give the citric acid a day or 2 tho, if cool it will take some time and then if any residue left push at it with a wooden chopstick if calcium based the calcium will be soft if not dissolved and the damp residue should have lost its adhesion.

a sonic bath may help too
