Every year I say I will spread the cost and not create a mad rush on Dec 24th and I am determind to do it this year.

Anyone else been thinking about the Christmas Shopping?

AND in August!

In reply, I am going to the US for a holiday in October so most Xmas stuff will be picked up then.

I have an alowance of 2 cases of 12.5kg each and so has SWMBO. I have never needed 2 cases going anywhere before so that leaves me plenty of room for gifts.

Ah was it a Christmas prezzie for yourself?
you know a nice shiny bit of brewkit? "well christmas is only around the corner"

I've been spending my birthday money on brewkit since June!
Swmbo would go nuts if she knew how much I have really spent ;)

I need to start now, I am one of 7 and SWMBO is one of 6 so that is a total 15 plus it is SWMBOS dads bday and I have not included nephews and nieces in that never mind the luck friends that get something!

Baah humbug!!

As mentioned before, Until I hear the angelic tones of Sir Noddy Holder, then Xmas does not exist.

However in the local council estate (ASBO friendly), one or two flats and maisonettes can be seen to still have their decs up from last year...

can't believe its going to be september in little over a day, the summer has went in a total flash, the footie season has come round quicker than ever and it will soon be xmas. might be good to have a post on everyones xmas brews and have a mass bottle swap and tasting post on xmas day?

All my xmas pressies are going to be grown, brewed, baked, or jammed. We're making little food parcels with rhubarb jam, blackberry jelly, homebrew wine of some sort (maybe teabag wine as it's easy), chilli sauce, shortbread, flavoured oils etc etc. With the imminent arrival of child number 1 our finances will be taking a battering so it's home made all the way!!

Currently the rhubarb and the chillies are still growing, the wine will go on asap, the herbs for the oils will be picked from the garden, blackberries are slowly filling up the freezer and the shortbread will be baked on xmas eve. Done.

Very impressive :thumb: I think I may have to DIY presents this year as funds are short. I thought you shouldnt harvet rhubarb after the solcist, is this an old wives tale?

That's the first I've heard of that! I would assume you shouldn't harvest too late into the season to allow the crowns to build up enough energy to see themselves through winter so I'll come back to this next year. If next year's crop is a disaster then you were right!

Rhubarb for wines should always be the first crop, I have been told....

We do alot of homemade presents, wines jams, honey, beer. Takes more time and effort than a box of chocolates :thumb:
