Finally about the first time this year none of us have been ill, and I've had no studying/ prepping for interviews to, we needed a family day out. My in-laws bought us National Trust membership last year, its the best thing ever, even paying for it it pays for itself after a few visits. So we looked in the book and Chirk Castle, nr Wrexham looked inviting so we got up there and it was fantastic. Not all of the house was open that happens at the W/E, but with the money we saved on admission we got a lunch, homemade bangers and mash, (sausages a few of you would be proud of!) and fish fingers and chips for little'un. The rest of the castle was open, the dungeon, and tower were you can get kitted out in chainmail (Man that stuff is HEAVY!!), and the gardens. It was a fantastic day out, and there's a decent farmshop, a bit expensive compared to the farmshop nr my house, but it did have a nice selection of local ale and cider, cheese, chutneys and pates.

When the weather gets better I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have membership

Thats a big plus one from me!

Went there as a stop-off on the way back from Snowdonia a while back. I highly recommend it. The dungeons and dragons geeks with the armour and medieval weapons were really good, very knowledgeable, I learnt a few surprising things about medieval combat from them.

Bit of a hidden gem. I'd never heard of it before and we just followed the signs.....
