i've thought of some more uses for the line chiller i'll be getting tomorrow from the local pub (if it works)

do you think it's possible to chill the wort with a beer line chiller alone? if not do you think it'll speed up chilling time if i used the beer line cooler inbetween my tap and the IC?

You really don't want to be putting boiling hot wort through it. I doubt you would notice any improvements by putting the water through the chiller prior to the IC, tap temperature isn't that far off chiller temperature now.

You will loose the ice bank in very short order.

Using it to prechill the tap water during the summer is a good idea. I do it when the temperature of the wort has been dropped to 35 C. Then switch the coolant hoses over to the beer chiller and drop the coolant temp.
