That is:

(She Who Immediately Must Be Obeyed) x 5

Now this is a challenge.

Five couples all like a drop of cider, we've pressed loads of apples together and the cider is fab.

Over the last month the guys have got together and we've brewed 200l of AG.

Results are beyond our highest expectations--- thanks to all on here.

Some SWIMBOS like red wine some like white wine.

Merlot/Grigio/Sauvignon Blanc are favoured.

The challenge to them is to brew some wine that will also exceed their highest expectations.

I've talked about WOW, but they don't really believe that it is possible to make a wine that is better, and more interesting than the

vast majority of pub wines.

Can you help ??

How do I convince them ?

I'll give them all the link to this thread so , please can I have some testimonials, simple 'how to guide' recipes............anything.

Grateful Thanks,

Cheers,

When it comes to white or rose wines, then a WOW variant is the way to go. They will be very pleased with the results. They will have to experiment a little bit in terms of ingredients. But in general as long as they keep the 1 grape juice to 1 fruit juice ratio then the results will be good. Red wine is a different story. A red wow is a bit like turning base metal into gold, neigh on impossible. The only way forward is a decent kit. But for £30 - £50 you can get some decent wine kits that produce about 28-30 bottles. My experience is that most in that price range are about the same. If you are prepared to go over £50 per kit then you can make some very acceptable wine. I'm a cheap skate and haven't tried those kits so I have no personal knowledge of them. That's just what I'm told. I stick to the £30+ kits and enjoy a decent red. But for both types red and WOW a degree of patience is required. Wine needs time to mature, especially reds. WOW is acceptable after a month, but better still after 2 months. Reds on the other hand need at least 4 months plus and up to a year.

Tell them to go ahead and make a WOW. 5lt only uses 1lt of grape juice and 1lt of orange juice. 5-6 bottles of wine for about 40p a bottle. What have you got to loose. Enjoy

If you want a decent red then Selection or Kenridge Showcase really is the only way to go IMHO.
A selection Luna Mezza bottled for 2 weeks will still be better than any £5 bottle of supermarket wine. If you can leave some for a year then it will easily beat any £10 bottle of wine.
I have just started drinking my last 6 bottles that were done on 3rd May last year and it is sensational. The night we had it we followed the Selection with a bottle given to us as a present, it was a 2009 Bordeaux, the selection was easily the better of the 2 with much more body and flavour.
The kits are expensive as an upfront cost but well worth it.

Thank you very much indeed.

I'm going to mail them this link.

Gauntlet is thrown.

I'll let you know how they get on.

Cheers
