This is the first AG brew from Chris (CJ) from the Smokestack Brewery  Good to meet you the other day chris and hopefully this wil be the first of many bottle swaps :D

The brew has been really well presented in dark brown bottles with excellent labels, informative and proffesional looking,

Opened with a good hiss of co2, poured into a pint glass with a good light tan head forming, obviously very dark in colour but when held up to a light a dark red hue can be seen along with excellent clarity. The roasted malts dominate the aroma.
First taste is suprisingly light - the few weeks of conditioning have really mellowed the roasted malts giving a really well balanced beer - the hops aren`t overly bitter and the balance is spot on for me, its not at all harsh like some stouts can be and is smooth and refreshing leaving a dry coffee taste at the back of my tongue. The head died back but has stayed to the bottom of the glass (I do drink quite quickly though  )
All in all very enjoyable and quite amazing that this is a first AG brew for chris and i`m glad he was prepared to share his very first brew with us all (well mainly me as i`m drinking them  ) Not being a huge stout drinker this pint has made me very glad that I have just bottled 64pints of my own oatmeal stout this morning

Pint pics.........................almost forgot

Cheers chris its great that a fellow brewer is only down the road, I really enjoyed the beer and look forward to the next one :drink:

:D Cheers!

I'm really pleased at how this came out actually, and it's definitely a hit with non-stout drinkers; I'll be brewing this again, in the future, maybe for next winter.

Rich, my Palmers-ish IPA is being bottled on the weekend, so when I'm in "the city" next, I'll pop a couple of bottles over if you like ;)

:D Sounds great - my abbot ale is in the FV at the moment and my old stoat oatmeal stout is botttled, just needs a little time to condition :thumb: I`ve my next few brews worked out in my head as well, an american pale ale with shed loads of hops, another hefe with hallertauer hersbrucker hops and vienna and munich malts in the grain bill and a classic pale english bitter with honey addition and first gold hops  So many brews ................ so little time...........
