Hi yet again I am going to bottle one of my beers which will be a first. I usually keg it but thought I would try this bottle way and see what it taste like I have brought a packet Coopers Carbonation Drops looked at the instructions for dosage. It says for 375 ml bottle 1 drop & 2 for 750ml bottle the thing is my bottles are 500ml so how many drops should I put in ?

I use 2 in 500ml PET bottles and they have been fine. Nicely carbonated too.

Thanks I will give them both a try I drop and 2 drop but on the 2 drop might leave it out side just in case BOOM!!

To be honest if I was using glass bottles I'd only use 1 to be on the safe side. I think PET bottles can stand a bit more pressure than glass ones.

I did use 2 when I bottled some cider in some 740ml bottles and their carbonation was fine too.

Thanks will only use one I think as it is in glass bottles plus it is going to be lager could be a very explosive situation :nono::electric::eek:if i use more than one tablet

No, two drop won't take you anywhere near bottle bomb territory. One drop per 500ml bottle is ok for a low-fizz British ale (stout, bitter, mild etc...). Some of the fizzier styles, like wheat beers, can have up to three times more CO2 in them than low carbonation beers. For a lager, I'd use two and chill the beer before serving, otherwise you will be disappointed by the lack of fizz.

I recently made some cider from 100% apple juice from Aldi and yeast. When finished in the fv I put it into 740ml PET bottle's with two carb drops in each. I left it for a month and then tried it. Quite disappointed with the results. Hardly any fizz, would say flat like a scrumpy. I will be leaving it for another moth to see how it goes, but next time I would say 2.5 or even 3 per bottle for cider.

However, when I have used 2 drops in 740ml bottles before for beer, they have been fine.

I set aside 4 x 500ml samples with Carbonation Drops in them. Did 2 bottles with 2 in, 2 bottles with 1 in.
Will leave a note here when i open them to see what they are like but i have noticed that the bottles with the drops in has much much more sediment in the bottom opposed to very little in the other bottles that i used Dextrose in.
In all honesty, i doubt i will use drops whatsoever in future brews now i have seen the results of just 1 bottle with dissolved dextrose.

I was wondering if the sediment is yeast? And the result of being more carbonated than the dextrose? I don't use drops but they are sugar and I thought they would dissolve. Interested to hear your comparison of the dextrose vs drops.

There visually seems to be a lot in the 2 drop bottles, will let you know on the carbonation with the drops.

That is a shame that you seem not to be a fn of them without giving the drop's time to do their magic.

It was my understanding that they were just sugar too and all the ones that I have used have desolved to make some nicely carbonated drinks.

Might of missed it earlier but is it two tea spoons of dextrose you use per 500 ml bottle? If so would that be 2.5 for a 740ml PET bottle?

I dissolved 124 grams of dextrose in a small amount of boiling water, let it cool, put it in the bottom of the bottling bucket before siphoning brew from FV.
There was approx 20 litres bottled with this mix and the 2 that have been opened so far a very impressive carbonation to them.

It is hard to see when.you posted or bottled. How long has it been in the bottle? I found that the drops only start to work well after 4 weeks. Sometimes I try to give them a little longer. However, this all depends on how much bubble in your drink you like. Personally I like a little bit not too much. Not where you get too bloated after drinking just one bottle. So for me the drops give the right amount, after a bit of time.

After 1 week there was good carbonation with the dextrose. After 2 weeks, the carbonation was pretty much the same. Very nice head on the beer.
As I say the dextrose doesn't leave any gunk in the bottle bottom but the drops seem to. Will get a picture up when possible.
