Starting my first ever brew shortly, just waiting on a few more things to arrive this week.

It's a pack brew so not a proper one but for my first one wanted to get the basics. Anyway im going to keg half of it and bottle the other half. I understand about priming the bottles with carb drops etc but for the keg i have its come with c02 cartridges prob 10grams off the top of my head. How many cartridges do i use for the keg? It has a thing that looks like i put the cartridge in place then tighten the cap to pierce the c02 to release it into the keg but when i google for information it's from higher end kegs hooked up to c02 systems.

Cheers

It sounds like you are talking about a pressure barrel rather than a keg, that might account for not getting the info you want when googling.

When you want to prime a PB you add the sugar/dextrose as per the priming scale depending on how fizzy you like it and how much you added (beer wise) to the keg, this will make the beer fizzy as long as you place it somewhere warm for a couple of weeks (this gives the yeast left to eat the sugar you've just added and make C02) the C02 capsules you have are for when that pressure has gone (say half way down the PB) and you need more pressure to dispense your brew.

No more than 90g of table sugar to a PB. That will keep you well within the pressure capability of the PB, but with more than enough puff to dispense your beer perhaps to the end if not stored cold
If you are using A PB for the first time you need to check it over before you put beer into it. PBs are notorious for leaks including new ones and this may save you problems later on. I suggest you read this.

You don't need to carbonate your beer using bulbs alone you can prime with sugar first then top up with CO2 later.
