I have a load of grain coming but didn't think about adjuncts a couple of recipes I've looked at include torrefied wheat.

I've looked up what torrefied means and its basically roasted, and since shredded wheat is something we buy from time to time I was wondering whether it would just be a case of chucking some in the oven for a while. Shredded wheat is 100% wheat by the way.

Funnily enough I don't use torrified wheat as I find it makes my beer taste of shredded wheat

It is usually put in for head retention, where needed I tend to use wheat malt instead ( if at all, but then I am a southerner ) :thumb:

There's another thread running Nic that also says use a proportion of wheat malt in the grain bill instead of using torrified wheat.

Wheat malt still requires a trip to the not so local home brew shop.

If I'm not that bothered about head retention does leaving torrefied wheat out make a difference to flavour?

I'd just leave it out, in my opinion your beer will taste better without it :thumb:

No reason why you can't get good head retention without it either, it just helps
