So, I've had my first (ever) batch in carbonation for a week now, and I figured I'd crack one open to see how it was going..

Tastes pretty good, but reminded me a bit of the old 'Soda Stream' drink makers when you put too much 'fizz' in the drink - like you can taste the carbonation.

I know it's only been a week, and I should really be leaving it for at least another 3 before I start drinking it, but I was curious..

(All in all quite tasty though - I'll have no problems drinking it.. Even at this stage, I've had worse commercial beer! ;) )

Depending on the style of beer it can be very easy to over carb. Carbonation brings out a load of flavour/bitterness, which is great with lighter beers but not so good with stronger tasting beers as you get a real sharp flavour coming off the carbonation. I noticed that with my stout which I felt was a bit over carbed, what I end up doing now is let it sit at room temp for a while then pour in the glass for a couple of minutes so that it's relatively flat by the time I start drinking it lol.

Carbonation is a refreshing feeling and, with a light lager, a refreshing taste. A nice cold refreshing pint of stout doesn't really mix well :D

Oh, the fact that it's only been a week won't be helping as the carbonation won't be absorbed into your beer so you'll be getting large CO2 bubbles rather than little tiny ones :)

These days pubs seem to offer a choice of cold or extra cold Guinness. It seems to be a bit of a waste but obviously following the modern trend of extra cold beers. At least it has some flavour to start with.

I don't mind extra cold stout, it's not my preference but it's OK. Having it cold and fizzy though.... it's not too clever lol.
