Hi!

Have tagged this onto the end of an old post, but don't think it will be picked up.

Question is: I have a barrel of Youngs that has been conditioning in the keg for 11 days - average temp indoors has been 19C. I would like to keep it in colder conditions to help it carbonate and clear, and the garage is ideal for this. Temperatures in Bristol will be fairly mild for two or three days, but I wondered at what point it becomes too cold for bitters and ales. For example is 3C too cold?

Advice gratefully received - as always.

After 11 days the conditioning / carbonation should be done. Moving somewhere cooler will aid the clearing. 3°C shouldn't be a problem.

Brilliant! Sunday night will drop to -1C apparently, but the garage will still be warm enough to be a degree or two above freezing - I'll leave it there for as long as possible.

Last time I conditioned (I have only 1 previous keg to my name - newbie, see!) my Wherry came out flat and no pressure in the barrel so hopefully this is alright. I reckon it was due to being left too long in the FV (13 days I think) - just didn't seem to work and tasted sweet too, so it was as if the sugar hadn't been worked on at all.

I'll keep you posted!

Cheers.
