Interesting idea. The stuff is quite concentrated, so I reckon a little will go quite far. Maybe no more than a few tablespoons for a subtle flavour, if you really wanted it to pack punch then as much as you want really..

I agree Rompy, a very interesting idea.
willycoolj, if you try it please post your verdict on the results.
I have a bottle of camp coffee that I bought to make cakes with my daughter but she didn't like the results (prefers chocolate).
This could be a great way to avoid wasting it :drink:

I think most coffee addicts would rather chew broken glass than drink a mug of camp coffee - it does have a rep. for being totally disgusting. so why would you put it in a brew when you could put real coffee?

This is true. I'm a bit of a coffee geek myself and there's a plethora of ways to add proper coffee to beer.

However - camp coffee also has chicory in it/chicory flavour, perhaps this is something you would want to infuse into the brew? Or you could just add real chicory ha.

Camp coffee tastes pretty nasty as it isn't just coffee ... it's a syrup blend of chicory and coffee.

Chicory was used in some coffee's as a cheap substitute for real coffee... and tastes it !

For all the young uns who are now confused

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Camp Coffee is a brown liquid which consists of water, sugar, 4% caffeine-free coffee essence, and 26% chicory essence. This is generally used as a substitute for coffee, by mixing with warm milk in much the same way as cocoa or added to cold milk and ice to make an iced coffee, but it is commonly found on baking aisles in supermarkets as it is also used as an ingredient in coffee cake and other confectionery.

Agreed, 'coffee' it isn't, but I actually used to quite like a mug occasionally as a bedtime drink. It's like instant mash or tinned curry, very little resemblace to the real thing but as long as you don't expect it to be coffee and drink it on its own terms I don't find it unpleasant. Just too sweet for me these days.

If you google 'espresso stout' or 'coffee stout' there are loads of tried and tested recipes.
I have to say, Cwrw makes a good point. It's not worth spoiling a brew for an experement. On reflection, it would be better to add proper coffee to the bulk of the wort and maybe try a couple of litres with camp, or even a 5l dj, to see the difference before committing a whole kit.
