Calculating malt extract

I'd like to calculate how much DME I'll need to make a solution of a certain SG. Can anyone help?

Cheers, pittsy. Had a look at that the other day, but couldn't work it out :wha: must have had a blonde moment, and I'm not even blonde! :lol:

After playing about and drawing up a graph, I've managed to establish the following formula for calculating the amount of DME in grams necessary to make up one litre of DME solution with any given SG :geek: :

m(DME) : weight of DME in grams per litre water
SG : specific gravity

m(DME) = 2.6 * [(SG-1)*1000]

Or in other words, you'll need 2.6g DME per gravity point per litre of solution.

sounds about right, my (possibly flawed) calcs for wine show 2.77g or sugar per point per litre.

No, that's probably right. I'm sure different sugars gives you a different number due to difference in density, sweetness levels etc.
