You can get the free to air HD channels without an HD subscription, but alas a crisper picture doesn't improve a poor plot/script.

Too true jeltz, we gave up sky the best part of 9 years now, it was crap then, and still is crap, overrated and expensive just to watch repeats and endless adverts!

I never figured out when years ago, in the early days, they never put adverts on their movie channels, as you paid for them, but now do, just greed to me!

Anyways, i would get either one of those freesat boxes, or even a independants box, when they are in the shop, LIDL do a great HD box very cheap, i have the standard definition box, and its great!

We were on FreeSat for years, but find enough stuff we like on the subscription channels now that we're happy to pay.

True, i get more than whats available on sky nowadays, and dont have to watch adverts anymore, but each to their own.
And no, i don't pay either!!

I really dont understand why Sky have to charge for HD? Surely its the standard now? If a box comes with a HD output then why charge to use it? You don't pay extra for stereo?

Switch to virgin

Why they charge extra for HD - it's called capitalism. If you don't like it move to Cuba etc etc etc only joking
It does use more bandwidth, obv.

Virgin? Isn't that Cable? None round here! This is those mysterious hills to the north of Rochdale and Oldham. It's Different here. On terrestrial, before the digital switch, we only got 4 channels, and one of those was iffy

i remember the iffy channel....... :thumb:

i think it became sky 1 ... :?

Well, it's looking like the disk itself is kaput - won't spin. Used to work in a place where we had guys who could swap in new motors but not now...
