My 1st Bulldog Kit (along with the Four Finger Jack I started the same night)

Will Update this thread as I go along - but initial Impressions are good.

Its another Premium Kit - but with a twist - no Two Cans for this one, no - what you get in the box is

1) Yeast
2) A Hop Tea Bag for Later Addition
3) Destructions
and 4) a Cube / Bag / Pouch of Malt - No more burned fingers rinsing out cans of malt, or fiddling around with the pouches as per the festival kits. No you simply submerge the plastic sack of malt in hot water for 15 mins to soften - unscrew the cap and pour into the FV - then add hot water to the sack - reseal - shake the pouch to collect all the residue and add this also.

A Nice Kit to work with and Initial results on day 1 look good - Im using a homebrew-online FV and the seal is not fantastic - but I have Krausen on the side of the FV and a bulging lid indicating that fermentation is nice and established - that and the lovely smell in my brewing area.

As I said I'll update as this brew progresses - and upload a picture of the finished product.

Will watch this with interest as I plan on doing this one next when my coopers European is finished.
Just wondered what your SG was?

I read it at 1037/ish so not far off whats on the side of the box.

On day 2 now with the kit and I can see a nice bulge on the lid of the FV - so things are coming along nicely

Looking good, hope to see the Four Finger review soon, as it's on my list of beers for 2014 along with the Evil Dog Double IPA.

Did the Hop Tea for this yesterday and its smelling lush - now to wait a week and start testing for the FG - I'll try and grab some pics of the bin prior to bottling.

Day 8 and Im at 1008 - She's Ready for bottling according to the sheet!!!!! - 1st time I've had a kit keep to the schedule as per the instructions - tried the sample jar - tastes like flat sol - so Im happy time to start 2nd Fermentation in bottles

Tried out the Coopers Carbonation Drops - x2 per 500ml Bottle (read lots of reports of 1 producing beer that had no Fizz)

Now for the waiting game..........

Will Share a 1st Pour Pic over Chrimbo

Hi

Last weekend I kegged this one.

I made it up to 25 litres and added a kilo of dextrose to help.

Have you cracked open a bottle yet? Hope it turned out well.

Does a lager need longer secondary as well as primary? Probably won't be able to resist cracking it open for the Wales England rugby in a few weeks...

Tasting good. Quite mellow and nicely hopped, came out with my adjustments about 4.8%.

Expert lager drinkers tell me it's very similar to San Mig Lite which is almost what I was aiming for!

started this kit last saturday and the start sg was 1040
7days later its now at 1010 added the hops bag and hope to bottle wednesday.

QUESTION:
i just got the mini keg starter kit, will this brew be ok with the kegs if so how much sugar to use in a keg, 80g or 150g
or just use the co2 to carbonate the beer.

I was just wondering how the carbonation turned out using two drops per 500ml?

Just bottled up a batch of this. I used a PB as a secondary fermentor and I think the lid wasn't on properly as it was completely flat when poured, so I added two carbonation drops in my 550ml bottles and one in my 330ml bottles which will hopefully solve that issue.

I pulled off a glass to have a test and the taste was fine (although a little more hoppy than I would expect a Cervesa to be) however the colour seemed off to me, more Amber in colour than the Corona/Sol pale colour I was expected. Did anyone else experience this or is it something I've likely done?

Further updates in a couple of weeks when conditioning is done.

It's strange but mine ALWAYS comes out amber, and tastes nothing like a cerveza, more like a light fizzy ale. Saying that, my mates LOVE it, so I've done about 4 batches now.
I always worry that one day it'll come out as it looks on the box and I'll have something none of my mates want!

I have one of these kits for my first attempt at home brewing, plan is to crack on this weekend and have it all ready in time for Christmas.

Anyone got any more experience/advice with this kit to share? Trying to read all I can!

Just finished drinking this and I found it to be a nice summer drink but it was way over carbonated after I batch primed with the recommended 150grms although others have found it to be flat using 80grms, so maybe best to go somewhere in between. maybe 110-120grms?

Disappointed with this. Primed bottles with one carbonation drop and ended up with a load of flat beer that is not pleasant. Much darker in colour than I'd expected and a bit sweet for me. Saving it for emergency use only.
