Is it possible that someone who uses a 40 litre Buffalo Electric Boiler could actually measure its capacity, meaning , does it actually hold 40 litres with some headspace. Reason I ask is because I have just bought a 40 litre electric boiler and to the maximum fill level is only 30 litres and 35 litres to the brim.

Surely someone must know the capacity of a Buffalo 40 litre Electric Boiler, we have quite a few members on here with these boilers, I,m sure someone has measured the ammount of water they ACTUALLY hold. :wha: :?:

I've had a 40 ltr buffalo for some time but never been near filling it so can't really help you, I only brew 23 ltr brews and even with the additional liquor needed to allow for losses, I never needed to fill to capacity and always have plenty of spare space :thumb:

Tnx for that, would you say you had at least 30 litres in it ?? if so, how much headspace was left, 3"-4"-5" ???

It would be heading towards 30 ltrs certainly, loads of spare space probably between 4-5 inches, gets up to a really strong rolling boil and no danger of boiling over.

Next time I brew I'll measure total capacity ...........

if I remember

Guessing from the marks I've made on mine I reckon it would take ~42 litres to the brim. There is a max mark about 2 cm down from the brim that fits in with my markings a a 40 litre mark

The boil is pretty vigorous though so I wouldn't want to try a full 40 litre boil, about 37-8 would probably be ok

Well I got my backside into gear this morning and had a brewday

Measured the Buffalo and as Dave says 40 litre up to the max mark just below the rim, further 2 ltrs takes it nearly to overspill :thumb:

Hey do you know the internal dimensions of the 40 litre Buffalo, notably the internal diameter, I was thinking of using one for a mash tun.

Here you go .......... 580(h) x 435(dia)mm. :thumb:

Haha! That's the outer dimensions but I asked a couple sources and it turns out that the GL349 which is the model you want (not the CC193) has an internal diameter of 33.5cm which is all good, all I need now is a custom made false bottom which is looking at £52.50, ouch!
