Set a Brupaks Honley Mild on the go on Thursday 19th but as of this morning Sunday 22nd not really a lot happening.
Got a heater in the FV and temp is around 20 degrees.
I was wondering if this should have been fermenting well away by now......or am I just in a hurry ????
:wha: :wha:

it should be fermenting - did you take any hydrometer readings - it might be fermenting ? :wha:

how did you pitch your yeast also?

Followed the instructions to the letter.....
Although the wort tem is about 20 degrees the air temp in my shed is only about 10 degrees....maybe its just too cold ???
Put the yeast in some warm water ( about 30 degrees ) and let it re hydrate the stirred the wort for about 5 minutes then put yeast in and gave it another good stirring.
Far as I can see it should be fermenting like a gud un by now.
Maybe i'm in too much of a hurry !!
Thanks for your comments rickthe brew.
Edit
I did take a hydrometer reading and wrote it down but my notebook is at home and cant remember what it was I wrote down !!

10 degrees is a bit low for fermenting - i do my beer and wine in the kitchen @ around 18 degrees c which is perfect,
If you took an initial hydrometer reading take another and if it has gone down it is fermenting - i would put your brew somewhere a bit warmer though!

good luck - keep us posted :drink:

It is the wort temperature that is important and not the air temp ricardo, as you say your wort temperature is 20C then yes it should be fermenting by now if the yeast is OK :wha:
The only way you will be able to tell easily is take another hydrometer reading, if it's lower than your original reading then it's fermenting, if not pitch another yeast asap :thumb:

Thanks for the comments guys......will have another look tonight when I get home from work.
If its not getting going I will take another reading and see what that says....

:hmm:
Bit of an update.....
Took a reading when I got home...
Started at 1040 reading now 1010 so decided to put some more yeast in......
Put the yeast in and stirred gently fermentation stared within a few minutes bubbled like mad thro the air lock for about 3 hours then appears to have stopped this morning ( or gone very very slow)
Surely it would ferment for more than 3 hours ??
Wort temp 22.5
Lid sealed / air lock ok
Any advice as to whats going wrong ???

Nothing is going wrong, because your wort is quite warm the yeast fermented very quickly . . . The problem with those immersion heaters is that although you set the stat at say 20C, that is only approximate . . . plus fermentation generates its own heat which can be +5 degrees or more . . . this causes the yeast to ferment really quickly .. . . I've had batches ferment in 36 hours . . .

What you have to remember is that the yeast can not read the instructions that say "Finishes in 7 Days" they just get on with it, if the wort is warm they work faster, if its cold they work slower . . . and there is no time and motion man making them slow down/speed up.

Kit instructions are generally awful, and at best only a guide (And a poor one at that) to what happens in fermenting wort.

Thanks for the replies.
Re temp
Stick on thermometer is half way up the fv on side away from immersion heater.....so Aleman you could be right about temp being a bit higher.
Gonna keep an eye on the reading over the next day or so.
You reckon that a reading of 1010 would be ok to keg ??

1010 sounds like it's finished, let it clear for a few days (if it isn't already) and rack it off I'd suggest
