I am a big fan of Brown Ales so want to try making my own but not yet up to an AG brew

I have found this kit which is
Northumberland Brown Ale which is an add 1kg sugar type kit

Now it has a review which says it was made up with a medium spray malt had a nice taste akin to Newcastle brown but a bit thin

question is would a dark spray malt give more body and if the kit askes for 1 kg sugar does it need the same weight if you use spray malt instead

In my opinion any one-can kit is going to be a bit thin, although dark spraymalt would certainly give more body.

Then again, I've tried a Newky Brown since I've gone over to the dark side, and thought that was a bit thin.

Spraymalt isn't quite weight-for-weight with sugar, if you use 1kg of spraymalt you might still need about 200g of sugar.

so how much malt would I need if I wanted to do it all with malt and no sugar

cheers
Max
