Wow, homebrewing of beer and wines must be getting really popular, a shop selling everything, has opened close to us, and i could not believe how well stocked they were with the choice of yeasts, kits equipment, and cheap, a coopers kit is £12.20!!

If the number of new members on here is anything to go by then I would say yes it is getting popular. Lets hope the trend continues as we will get more choice and keen prices.

These be hard times in a triple dip UK economy... People make do and mend to save money. Why buy everyday beer when you can make your own cheaper?

Only it's not "make do and mend" in this century since its so easy to get cheap equipment and knowledge for any venture these days. I'd say, it's more about "make do and get off the grid". Hence why stores like hobby-craft are on the rise.

I work near Mansfield and pass through Ollerton regularly when I go away so ill remember to pop in.

I find the one at the bottom of rock hill too expensive to be fair.

Could really do with something like this close to me, Wilko is all I have that in the town.

Good luck to them, with more shops like this about home brewing can only get bigger

Him at rock hill wants £28, these want only £20 for a woodfordes, coopers kits are £12.20, wine kits start at £6.90 for a gallon, you cant go wrong!

£12.20 is quite expensive for a coopers kit given the going rate in most other places, but the other stuff sounds like a bargain :D

Will have to have a visit. i tend to avoid rockhill because of the prices. i dropped you a pm if you dont mind mate.

Not so sure about a change to prices. There are only 3 main distributors/wholesalers that supply all LHBS as well as the big chains, such as Tesco and Wilkinsons. All three have virtually the same wholesale pricing, and the margins for a LHBS aren't fantastic. The big chains of course get a better deal which is why they can afford to sell some items much closer to what a LHBS buys at. For example, if a LHBS sold Coopers kits at £10, like Tescos does, they'd make no money at all. The big chains will also run loss-leaders (such as £10 Coopers kits), just to get people in the door. Independents can't afford to do this, which is why we should support them, rather than the chains, wherever possible.

Having said that, I know a couple of LHBS that charge way over the odds, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I wish there was a shop like that near me, I get everything online and although the prices are ok the waiting can be a pain in ones bottom lol

i agree, but nowadays, its a dog eat dog world, we all need to save money, and this is one way to do so, and as for coopers being expensive at £12.20, you should go to my local homebrew shop, he wants £14,59 for a kit, sorry, but he's not having my money, independant or not.

been down and had a look today mate, needed a few airlocks and bungs. they have got a good selection and also noticed muslin fabric on a roll for £2 a square metre, ill be using that for my biab bag. although didnt get the bungs and airlocks from there as they are still a bit cheaper at wilkos and i prefer the none noisy ones. i did notice alot of cheap stuff though. the deluxe syphone kit thats about 8 quid of the web is only £3 there.
