So I bought a dedicated brew kettle for my home brew. Unfortunately, it being shaped rather like a pot, some non-brewer thought it would be a good idea to use it for cooking in! As I do not want fats and what not getting into my beers I am at a loss of what to do.

Should I just buy a new pot or can homebrew cleaners do the job? Perhaps someone has successfully brewed great beer in the same vessel they cook great meals?
 
i have a 20ltr pot i use to make soup and chlli in. as long as its cleaned properly theres no issues.

That is kind of my point, what counts as a good clean? What will get rid of fats and oils and other things not normally associated with brewing?

What Yeast Infection mentioned Oxi clean from the pound shop or supermarket followed by a good scrub (make sure you rinse well too to get rid of the Oxi clean). Sodium Percarbonate (the active ingredient in oxi cleaners) breaks down organic matter well
