So researching places to get kits I've come across Brew Genie in Shrewsbury, they do a starter kit for £58 which sounds pretty reasonable, inc. 5l tub, pressure barrel, gas injector, hose, sterilizing stuff, spoon, and John Bull kit. I think I'll need a hydrometer. Any ideas on what is the best way to keep a brew at optimum temp, as I'll probably be keeping it in the utility room/garage which isn't at all warm?
I'm going to pop in on Monday I think, getting excited now.

Well, to keep fermentation at a stable temperature, I use a £5 aquarium heater from ebay, in a plastic tub in a few inches of water - works for me :-) a hydrometer is a must, though - these are cheap enough (wilkos, etc...)
