Those of you living in the North Yorkshire area will be familiar with Boyes, the home of good value and reasonable prices. Was in my local branch (Yarm High Street) at the weekend and, bu**er me!! They've started selling homebrew stuff! Decent kits, decent equipment, ingredients, beer and wine making paraphernalia. They haven't done this by half and the prices are good too!

The one in Brid has got a decentish section too, althought the larger one in Scarbrough doesn't. :wha:
The cider yeast with sweetener is excellent for TC. :thumb:

Boyes in March, Cambridgeshire sell Homebrew equipment also,

saw a clear 25l PET fermenter with tap and screw on lid with airlock groumet for £22
I may just get one later on

I'm just outside Scarborough, and I asked in the Scarborough Boyes's's a couple of months back. They didn't stock homebrew then - the sales assistant thought it was because there is a guy in the indoor market across the road (Mick - Jass Brewing supplies, who I try to use whenever possible: nice guy). Very noble of Boyes not to compete, if that's the case. I sort of hope they're still not, to be honest, in Scarborough at least.

my local one doesn't sell hops but have various hop packets. better brew finishing hops.

walked in the shop and the 5 gallon PET clear Carbouy made by Better Brew with 4 inch screw on top with groumet and handles also bottom tap calibrations up the side.

reduced to £20 so the wife bought it for me, bless her.

Boyes seems to be more widespread than I thought! Glad to see they're not following the Tesco model of commercialism by putting existing brew shops out of business. Have to say that although the branch in Yarm stock some decent stuff and are only 15 mins walk from my house, I'm still staying faithful to the Hop and Grape as they stock the things I want. they have good opening hours which fit round my work (and they're only a small detour from my way home) the prices are reasonable and John and Patsy are a source of brewing wisdom which money can't buy. Boyes will be handy from time to time when I need something quickly methinks, but for everything else I'll support my local HB shop.

Well said that man. Boyes in Scarborough seem to do their bit in the community, sponsoring youth concerts for example and I applaud them for that, but their new homebrew section is literally 50 metres as the crow flies from JAS Brewing in the indoor market, who keep the Brewferms, Festival kits and much more, at good prices. It's their right to compete, but we'd lose the breadth of choice locally if we only had Wilkos and Boyes and I guess that may be the same elsewhere.

We have some a few Boyes stores in Hull the one on Hessle Road and Branshomle do sell homebrew, also have a few wilkos that sell a few kits and equipment. We have an Brew shop just off Holderness road which I visit quite often, only problem it can't compete on prices to the larger retailers its a shame.
