I left my Coopers to brew for 12 days, I bottled it Wednesday just gone. For the first day it was slightly cloudy in the bottles, clear now though but there's a slight sediment at the bottom of my bottles. It's the same sediment that was left in the bottom of my FV, am I right in assuming it's yeast?

If so, would this cause any complications when it comes to drinking it? It's going to get disturbed once the bottle is tipped.

I used 1 x tbsp of sugar per 1L bottle. Everything seems to have gone well there  .

PS: Due to the cheapo siphon I got from my brew shop, I now have a nice big red clip to hold it to the side of the FV along with an inline tap. The tap seems a bit cheap, I'd like something a little chunkier & sturdier, if anyone knows of anywhere that makes one for an inner 8mm diameter pipe I'll be most gratefull.

Perfectly normal and yes it's yeast.

You will find that as long as you leave the bottled undisturbed and upright the yeast will pretty mush stick to the bottom of the bottle, just take care when pouring, pour in one easy motion trying not to make the bottle 'glug' too much and stop pouring if any yeast looks like its about to get into your glass.

You'll get the hang of pouring bottle conditioned beer in no time at all :thumb:

I'm sure I will Wez :thumb: , thanks for the quick reply mate! :drink:

Ahhh missed that they were 1L bottles, jugging is good then!

Agreed with everything that's already been said, it's quite normal, and it's easiest to pour smoothly to an oversized jug and from there to your glass.

I have found that, given time, Cooper's yeast compacts very well and you can pour virtually the whole bottle. The trick is, as soon as your FV is empty, get another brew on the go, and then by the time you're onto your 5th bucketful the 3rd batch of bottles can get time to condition properly.

  I like a drink Moley, but to get another 40 pinter on the go is just rude  .

If I'm honest, my next lot will be a cider mix. Not sure what to go for though. My local does Magnum mixes, but how are the cider mixes in comparison (Brewbuddy, John Bull, Brewmaker & Magnum etc)? I like a crisp, non 'kakky' flavour or even a dry one.

ive never done a cider kit, so i cant advise on the best. but for the price you will pay for a kit you could spend that money on super market apple juice and have a go at turbo cider. :thumb:

That is an idea Dave. But he sells them for like £14 per 40pints, so it works out cheaper than buying a load of supermarket cartons..

I'm open to ideas though  .

PS: Still looking for a more hard wearing tap.

if its apple juice from concentrate it can be used for TC. but i would go for the smart price, here in corby its 2 for a £1. got some funny looks from the check out girl when i went through with 40 cartons :)

Hi Chris.

I've just done a magnum apple cider kit, It was only bottled on Monday so not had time to settle properly yet. First impressions of the flat (non primed) stuff is good, but for me requires a little back sweetening as it is quite dry (each to their own i guess). There are no stabilisers in the cider kits, just your yeast/nutrients and flavouring, so need to let it ferment out or add your own stopper; I didn't have any in at the time so let it go all the way.

I have also done the magnum pear cider, now that was a bit sweeter but you could taste the flavouring was artifical! To me it tasted like you were sucking a pear drop sweet whilst swigging!! Still drinkable though and friends at BBQ's always seem to want me to go get a bottle out....so it cant be that bad!

Think i'll try a john bull next time.

I've done loads of TC's and they are fine too, but again i like them medium ish so always having to sweeten up!

Let me know if you do any other kits and how they turn out.
