I never managed to get bottles in the end, have a good selection of glass bottles now though, shame lots of them are clear though

problem i have around here is either competition for the bottles and or sealed wheelie bins are now getting very common rather than the ones with the flip lids.

I had the same issue with locked bins but now when i walk the dog i carry a pair of pliers to open then 'borrow some bottles' then lock them back up like a good citizen.

I've collected enough bottles for around 4 23l brews from buying and drinking lots of lovely shop bought beer. A fair portion of them were donated by a few friends which really helped bring the total up quickly.

For labels I fill the sink with very hot water, filling the bottles as the water goes in so that they can gradually get used to the temperature change. Stick in a squirt of washing up liquid and leave them overnight. Most labels fall off, others need some attention with a wire scourer, but I didn't find many bottles that wouldn't give in eventually.

Lots of them are clear unfortunately, but when I manage to sort out my stock rotation I'll include old duvets to drape across them to avoid skunking.

A bloke i know via my aunties shop has done a few bottle raids for me round the back of local pubs. In exchange i give him a couple of pints (or 500ml's) for his troubles. That plus the misses's taste for Newcastle Brown ensures i am on my way to a healthy bottle collection.

All of which will possibly be up for Free-To-Collector soon.

i have the proper triangle key, whats stopping me is the buggers are removing the whole glass bin as , we now have individual wheelie bin recycling bins they dont want the side street collection bins.
the biggest issue i get when asking to raid pub skips, is "why dont you drink here" when i point out i cant afford to go to the pub as they charge £2 a pint and i make all grain for 40 pence they get well ratty

Understandable I suppose. But then you are saving them money buy removing them for free. :thumb:

most of the bottle pub bins are behind locked gates to prevent the pikies pinching any thing they can so you have to ask, and to be honest i cant argue against that reply, shame really

It's just some of the buggers with plastic labels that are awkward, they end up filled and given away as testers :!:

They often can be removed by filling the bottle with very hot water melting the glue, but can be a pain to do :twisted:

i do hundreds of wine bottle each year and the water proof ones are the same,

my method is to scrach the front with a blunt butter knife to remove the majority of the labels i then use, goo gone on the residue to remove it, nice clean quick and easy enough for a monkey like me to use

I am lucky that I get my bottles from a small local theatre. They only put on about 6 shows a year but I get about 300 bottles a year ffom them. It is quite good as they tend to be quite discerning drinkers and drink beers with good bottles :lol: :lol: .

However I take all their bottles and dispose of the ones I don't want which is fair enough.

How did you find them? I bought some of these too and they don't hold the pressure well, the gas escapes from the lid
