How do people generally store their home brew? I have around 80 bottles in various bags and boxes around the garage and want to find a stacking solution which will allow things to be much tidier. Ideally I would like to stack them in the plastic crates that the imported German beers come in (like Augustiner) but I would imagine that would be an expensive way of doing things. Does anyone use any cheapo plastic boxes I can pick up from Wilkinson etc? I'd quite like it to look nice and tidy as that would save me no end of agro from SWMBO.

Any ideas welcomed!

Nick a few crates from Tesco home delivery...

*cough* or so I've heard might be a good idea

*cough* might try it sometime *cough* because *ahem* I haven't done that at all, ever... *cough*

if u cant 'borrow' any it may be worth investing in a few crates, they double up as brewday multilevel platforms, and u only need to loose one batch to a damp cardboard box bottom, or a UV damaged storage box to regret not making the investment.

The ar$e fell out of the first cardboard box of bottles that I tried to carry into the kitchen for cleaning taking ages to clear up the broken glass, so I went a bit nuts then calmed down and bought some proper heavy duty storage boxes.
A thread on the boxes are here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=49148

I have also just invested in a load of Storalux garage racking by 'tufferman' on ebay to stack them all on which arrived this morning. They seem reasonable quality for the price.

The multi-trips are great, 20 bottles to the crate and stackable. Only trouble is you need the shorter, dumpier ale bottles.

The ones from erm... Butts, Cotswold, Sulwath and a few others. They're actually the same height as the ones that Youngs sell empty in the HB shops. So the likes of Fullers, Hooky, etc. are too tall and they don't stack properly, they rest on the bottles rather than the crate below.

B & M Bargains are doing a 30l see through plastic box with coloured lid for £3.99 or two for £6.
They hold 20 Coopers plastic Pet Bottles and in my view are an excellent buy. I bought a couple this afternoon to try them and will  be buying more.

To avoid the cardboard box breakage problem I put the box on a tray when carrying it. Normal melamine kitchen tray.

I make my own wooden crates from 3" by 3/4" sawn timber . . . It used to be Pallets but I just couldn't be bothered knocking the pallets apart and it damaged the wood to do so. but It's cheap enough to buy carcasing, and knock up my own crates.

I also make my crates, any size you want and stackable. I have 2 sizes, 12 bottles and 24 bottles.
