Hi all;
I'm after some help with trying to improve the way I do my bottle sterilizing (Grolsch Bottles with Flip Top Stoppers). Currently when I sterilize my fermenter before use, I reuse the sterilizing fluid by filling all my bottles up and leave them with some cling film over the top until I need them (Generally 5 – 7 days later).

Are there any alternative solutions to the way I am currently doing it. My aim is to try and speed up the process.

Thanks

The most effective way to sterilise bottles is to use an autoclave 20 minutes at 121C kills all known bugs . .. and spores.

Of course if all you are really trying to do is disinfect your bottles the process is somewhat easier. . . . I rinse my bottles out as I use them . . . or next morning at the latest . . . that way they are clean and there is no cruddy residue to remove. . . . If I have to remove cruddy residue . . . then a sink full of hot (70-80C) water and a scoop of Whizz OxyAction, immerse bottles in water (Use Gloves!) and leave for 10 minutes . . . remove, drain, rinse with more hot water . . . invert and allow to drain . . . cover with a square of tinfoil and box until ready for use . . . spray with no rinse sanitiser when ready to use . . . flick bottle downwards to remove residue and use.

Doing 2 or 3 bottles as I use them is much quicker than doing 40 . . .or 80 . . . or 2000!

Of course with Grolsch bottles you don't need the tinfoil . . . just close the stopper.
