Hi just wondering if anybody has experience of and can recommend a good bottle filler, ideally one that measures 500 ml and dispenses to that.

Many thanks

I think you are into mega-bucks with a filler that actually measures out the amount to be dispensed!

This is a popular filler with many on the Forum ...

... but personally, I use a syphon tube with a small tap on the end like this ...

... and remember to put a small bit of sterilised tube on the tap before starting the syphon. It is so that I don't introduce spit into the beer and is discarded once the syphon is in action.

I use the "U" shaped anti-sediment device when transferring the brew from the FV to the bottling bucket (actually, another FV) but, after adding the carbonation sugar to the bottling bucket, I discard it for transferring the beer to the bottles.

Hope this helps. :thumb:

I use the little bottler/bottling wand as well. I find it displaces enough liquid to fill the bottles just right if filled tot he brim.

I use the little bottler but do not have a bucket with a tap so cut the tube off and inserted it into the end of my syphon tube, it works a treat.

Thanks folks

I'm currently using a beer gun out of a keg but as things progress it's getting a little slow so I wondered if anybody has experience of bottle filling machines of the type sold by Vigo or similar?

As a total beginner and a spine crushing two brews to brag about I to the complete annoyance of most people who know me,research everything to death before buying anything..I'm not tight but do like to make sure I have the right kit (for me) for the job. The little bottler is a great item! Having bottled both my brews I decided putting spoons of sugar into bottles for priming was a pita so opted for bulk priming in a bottling bucket with a tap fitted with the bottler wand. Just place it over the open dishwasher grab a chair and clack at it..

Cheers
Clint

.......... I decided putting spoons of sugar into bottles for priming was a pita so opted for bulk priming in a bottling bucket .........

I found that the Tesco 4gm sugar cubes were too big to get through the neck of even a 650ml flip-top bottle!
(I was told this on the Forum but had to prove it to myself! )

However, the 4g cubes were very easily snapped into two halves that fitted through the neck of the bottles easily and 6g is the perfect weight of sugar to carb up a 650ml flip-top bottle.

All I had to do was to remember to put three halves in each bottle ... :thumb:

... and not two in one then four in the next and so on!

I've had a couple of "whumph" experiences opening the bottles so I think I will go back to batch priming. :thumb:
