I've just opened the first of my latest brew and something bizarre happenned- as the cap came off so too did a small chunk of glass from the top of the bottle! Is it because I left a tiny amount of sugar on the rim and it glued itself to the cap? Or was it just a bottle with an imperfection and bad luck?

A bit worried as I don't want glass in all my beer!

On the plus side this time none fell in and brew seems to be quite good!

I'd go for the imperfection and / or damage when you capped it. I've had one, and only one bottle do the same thing.

Ok, that's better than if they might all go. Other people give me their bottles so it could have been outside... Also, I put them in the dishwasher, could that do some damage to them?

I'd agree with Keith, i've managed to crack the odd bottle now and again when i've been capping them. Check them carefully before storing them away

Ok cool, thanks guys. Will make sure I check everything carefully from now on. I may have been rather exuberant too...
