Does anyone else have a hop/malt they just can't get on with no matter how hard they try?
For me black malt and target hops (apart from stout) never seem good additions to my brews. Maybe its my water or (probably) its me. Just can't seem to get a nice brew if they are needed. Both are now banished from my brew store.

Target is great as a bittering hop used at 90 minute. It is used in a lot of commercial brews Fullers esb for one. Great if you use goldings as an aroma hop. Black malt has to be used sparingly but can be added to darken a bitter a bit. However if you use to much it will over power and be quite bitter.

Torriefied Wheat
Can i make it clear that I'm not asking this in a condescending way because after the "where's all the ag brewers gone" thread I don't want to step on anyones toes but whats the problem with torrified wheat because I've seen quite a few people use it and they always say it is for head retention and no mention of dodgy flavours??

Wheat Malt is better as you don't get the wheatabix flavour. Wheat malt is just as good for head retention. I use it in all my brews. :thumb:

Thats good lol I've used wheat malt in a brew today, but i have just got some torrified wheat that i haven't used yet. Not sure about it now??
