Just got off the phone with their sales in the Midlands, apparently a company decision was made that they will not be supplying new accounts to people who want to use them at home WITHOUT purchasing/installing/renting one of their CO2 Monitors - these monitors can be rented for £19 a month or you can buy direct for £90 - BUT these only last a year before they need replacement/calibration.

Well blow me! I thought it was a bit 'pie in the sky' and the salesman tried to talk me into it - not sure if this is a sales ploy or a marketing trick - either way if its true this may affect existing account holders!

London beer gas and their expensive costs will have to do!

:hmm: I wonder what the %age split is between:

1) Concern for the safety of their customers
2) Gouging as much cash from the little guy with limited supply options as possible
3) Insurance cost and public liability
4) Reducing less profitable low volume customers and forcing them to intermediaries they can sell to in bulk

What a crock, co2 sinks to the floor, unless you have a huge volume and you sleep on the floor the co2 will be of little concern to the home brewer.
Having said that I remember an Italian commissioning engineer who poked his top half of his body to look inside a juice tank that had a co2 blanket on top, promptly became unconscious and fell in!
One freshly squeezed orange juice covered sheepish Italian!

I work with canning machines that fill 2000 cans a minute with carbonated product ;)

Probably all of those and a few more but I would say #2 would be top and #1 bottom

cant people buy a c02 monitor etc BOC emailed me and said they would happily rent me a c02 or mixed gas cylinder. "0 quid initial payment then 3 quid a month rental :D

As a BOC account holder at home i haven't heard anything about this. I did receive a letter today from BOC advising me that i could order a refill any week day before 5pm and have it the next day! :wha:

Not happening. I know someone who works there and its only for new accounts.

K

i get my co2 from local bevridge company or you can tap up the people who fill fire ext units up

boc all ways been fooooking rip of people ie welding gas :thumb:

My best guess is it's insurance related.

Considering the comments above from existing customers, and the known risk of CO2 to human health I'd guess it's resulted in an insurance saving for BOC.

Yours a cynical H&S bod
