Bobek or Aurora for SL style beer?

Love the idea of using a tall fridge to keep temperatures

It works well and I can get 2 23L FVs in and still have room for some bottles at the top. Probably my most important/useful bit of brewing equipment.

I use old flooring for a shelve.

What is with the tape stuck in the fv? Where is your heater?

Heater is under the shelf at the bottom, the tape is holding a bit of foam on to the FV that makes a little pocket to tuck the temp probe in so it measures FV temp. In this case the probe is on the side of one of the lower FVs

Having a few sneaky samples while checking SGs for these 3 brews and they are coming along nicely :thumb:

Cardinal - definite fresh fruit flavour coming through as per the description a bit of apple and strawberry but quite mellow for this early on, could have a real humdinger with this one

Bobek - Nice subtle hop flavour and aroma it is a bit floral, a bit herbal, again very smooth for this stage of brewing think this will be a very easy drinker

Aurora - Smelt the best in the FV but probably the greenest tasting at this point, a touch harsh but some nice citrussy fruit in the background, should come good with a bit of conditioning.

Havent had any real disappointments with these slovenian hops so far :)

Was tempted to try an early sample of the cardinal beer tonight and it's flavour has changed quite dramatically it's now got a really strong stewed strawberry taste (think strawberry jam before the sugar goes in) a bit odd to be honest and unlike any beer I have tried or made before! Has only been in the bottle a week but still taken me by surprise this one

I like Bobek, provides a really nice lift to pale English ales.

After the cardinal one going a bit weird I think the Bobek is the front runner for being my favourite!

I used Wolf, Bobek and Aurora - also got strawberry aroma. Not had it from Bobek before, you didn't use Wolf so it must be the Aurora.

This was actually the beer with Cardinal and Wolf in it (I sneaked a third beer into this thread), it's mainly Cardinal for late additions so I'm assuming most of this flavour has come from that hop as strawberry is specifically mentioned in its description. I hope it mellows out a bit cos it's quite overpowering at the moment!

Ok with you. So where the heck am I getting strawberries from?! Mind you, my olfactory doodahs have had some hammer, so it's probably just me!!

Well I haven't noticed any strawberry in the Bobek and Aurora brews so maybe the Wolf also has strawberry notes, might explain why a combination with cardinal in my beer has created this intense cooked strawberry character....
