Since the recession Board Games have seen a rise in play because people don’t have the disposable income.

You come round to mine, we play a few games and drink some of my home brew. What’s been spent? Not a lot

Cant beat a bit of Scrabble.

I like Scrabble but my Mum’s Dyslexic and nobody else wants to play it

articulate, scrabble, talisman & unstable unicorns (or unstable amber as it's called in our house - because amber is very competitive and doesn't like it if someone attacks her stable!)

Our 13 year old is too cool for board games now, so it's just me, my better half and our 8 year old, so we play stuff she likes. This Christmas it was Bunny Jump and Pickin Chicken, the latter she really likes. Not in the same league as what you chaps are on about, I appreciate!

It doesn’t matter I have a 3 year old and started to get him into Snakes and Ladders. They say it’s good to get your kids playing games etc because it teaches them to be sociable etc

Bananagrams is addictive and Catan is brilliant but makes you hate everyone else who is playing and plan their demise!

We’ve had a bit of Dobble here this Christmas. And Listography, another great game.

I used to play warhammer and 40k as well. Dwarfs for the former blood angels for the latter. And then later Catachans (spelling?) Long time ago that seems lol.

I used to love Talisman when I was younger, the original set of course, with the city, dungeon, mountains, forest and tower expansion sets added. Anyone remember Heroquest? In a similar vein. Also one of my favourites.

Someone mentioned scrabble? Have you ever played Upwords? Very similar but you can add letters on top of words as well as at the ends of them.

Two Board Games I've NOT tried are:

• "Necrophilia" and
• "Incest"

The first is dead boring, whereas the second one (described as "a game for all the family") is relatively boring!

Campaign, 4 sided chess where you can make an ally of one of the opponents, defeating the other two and putting your ally to the sword to claim victory.

Know what you mean need 4 like minded people . Yeah pandemic legacy finished part 1 that was good still on part 2 need time to play it. Dead of winter is brill

Family round this Xmas, who are new-game addicts. Played a new one they'd got called Wingspan. They loved it, wife loved it, I'm still on the learning curve.
Played quite a few games of a worker placement game called SteamWorks lately, involves collecting bits to build machines that you then run to make stuff to build more machines and get points; can be a bit mind bending but good fun.
Meanwhile I'm always up for a good ol' session of cribbage/backgammon/Scrabble

I'm an avid boardgamer and RPGer.

@Flying_Fox If you like those two I not so humbly recommend Ghost Blitz and the much more relaxing Rhino Hero.

We played Dixit and when the kids went to bed, failed to complete a festive Call of Cthulu....

My god that takes me back. Used to be an avid RPGamer years ago. Call of Cthulu was a regular one along with Runequest, Twilight, Space Opera and Palladium.

What's zombies? And Dixit ?

I've never payed Zombies, but Dixit is sort of like Taboo/Pictionary, but not at all.

You pick a card with a picture on it. Tell everyone via a word, poem, interpretative dance etc which represents that card (They don't get to see it). Everyone else puts one of their cards in blind and they're mixed up with your card. Then everyone has to put a token on the card that they think you've described. It's ridiculously easy to play and great for adults and kids alike. Hard to explain though. YouTube is probably the best route.
