Just broken open an early bottle of my Black Rye IPA,brewed to be under 5% as that is how i prefer my beers.
One to re brew in a bigger batch,very nice indeed. Starting to warm to Rye beers, gives a nice sharpness to them.
6 litre batch b.i.a.b/partial mash.
70 min mash x 67c x 5 litres. 10 minute dunk sparge x 72c x 3.5 litres.
60 min boil
500 grams 50/50 mix of stout and pale malt
454 grams liquid extract ( h and b)----start of boil
35 grams Choc malt
45 grams Crystal 120L
20 grams Black malt
35 grams Flaked barley
35 grams malted rye
20 grams Flaked rye
20 grams Choc rye
8 grams Challenger 60 min
8 grams Amarillo 15 min
1/2 protofloc tablet 15 min
8 grams Amarillo turn off
8 grams Citra turn off
No dry hop
1/2 pack re hydrated Gervin yeast.
OG 1.047..FG1.011..ABV approx 4.86%..SRM 29.77..IBU 43.61
