Bitter Kit

I have started off the youngs bitter kit that i wanted to make a little stronger.

I cut it down to 34 pints, however the sg is just over 1.040 which i belive - correct if i'm wrong - i am new at this... will give around 5-6%.

I was expecting more than this by cutting out 6 pints.

any advice!? :?

Are you sure the FV has its lines on right? They're often a bit out and you should expect a kit to get to 1.040 (which will give you something around 4%) and be 40 pints.

My maths may be wrong but I'd have only expected roughly a 0.5% increase in abv if you decreased the brewing volume by 15% (6 pints).

Just drink more.

Why not add some Muntons Hopped Light Spraymalt (made into a syrup with water).
