Hi all,

I recently returned to brewing after a couple of years off.

I currently use 2 top tap King Kegs & so I decided to do a bitter kit and a porter kit for christmas.

Because I havent used them for some time I replaced the inlet and out let rubbers on both.

The bitter has worked well, but I have had a disaterous pressure loss on the porter. I think I have fixed it now by replacing the inlet rubber which I think must have been faulty.

My question is should I just gas the barrel up and leave it (Porter still has a couple of weeks until it is ready) or should I bring it back inside and re prime it for another secondary fermentation?

All the best

Bill

I would add gas until you get the condition you want.

Welcome to the forum BTW :thumb:

Hi Wez,

Thanks for the reply.

I have replaced the valve and gassed it up tonight - Hopefully it will hold pressure - If not it is off to the homebrew shop to replace the whole valve assembly.

I am really lucky in that I have an excellent shop only a few miles away from me

Just checked - Pressure seems to be holding up - I will check again in the morning, just started drinking the Bitter (a Coopers English Bitter) - A little early, but that is why we use top taps isn't it? :D

Sorry to butt in.........
How do you know if your King Keg is loosing pressure ????
Apart from the obvious answer....a hissing noise !!!
Without a pressure gauge or pressure valve.
Is it not a bit late when you go to draw a glass off and its 'flat'.??
I have just kegged some Honley Mild and am wondering how I know the pressure is ok.

all my kegs have pressure gauges on them, but i would say you could check by pulling on the rubber pressure relief seal and see if anything comes out

Where did you get the pressure gauges from or did the lids come with them on ????
We are talking KK style barrels and not corny kegs??

Does it make a difference where the tap is located if it is attached to a float system?

KK's come in 2 varieties - top tap and bottom tap. The top tap version uses a float system and allows you to draw from the top of the beer.

Some people prefer top taps, some bottom.
