Hi everyone,

Since the Oatmeal Stout was such a success, I wanted to get another batch going as I have since run out.

Bought a few bits and pieces for my Birthday to up the amount I can brew. Not a big jump but will give me a bit more to work with.

So what I was thinking......bought some sparkler taps and a 33L FV (7.5 Gallons??), more chocolate malt.

Wanted to make 33L of this and worked out the calculations from my last brew.

5700g Marris Otter
350g Chocolate Malt
350g Crystal Malt
215g Black Malt
430g Flaked Oats
22g Roasted Barley

65g Goldings at Boil.
1 x S04 yeast

Should I boil for longer than 60mins on this one? The first batch I only boiled for 60 and was great. Why change it?

My main problem is sparging......I need 34L of sparge water and my HLT only holds 27L. Whats the best way to deal with this?

Any more comments would be great.

Cheers

i use my HLT as a boiler.

what i do is fill the liquor tank with the required mash water... dough in... then fill it to the brim with more liquor for the fly sparge... and i collect the runnings in fermenters

when i've done with the sparge, i empty the boiler/hlt of any left over liquor, then put the runnings collected in the fermenters into the boiler ;)
