So with a coffee stout brewed a few weeks ago I decide to use up most of my left-over grains in a mini-brew. The main reason was the lack of Maris Otter I had left and also wanted to experiment a bit with mash rests as it's only my third BIAB and fifth brew ever.

1kg Maris Otter Pale Malt
200g Molasses sugar
200g Dark Crystal
250g Torrified Wheat - flaked
100g Chocolate malt
50g East Kent Goldings

Grains added to 9L 45'C strike water. 30mins @ 40'C; 30mins at 50'C; 45mins @ 70'C.

Sparged with 1.7L water.

Boil started with 25g EKG hops; Molasses sugar added @ 30mins; 25g EKG hops added @ 20mins.

1.062 OG; pitched yeast at 23'C. Ended up with 6L and with trub etc I think it's only going to be a 5L batch! Depending how it turns out this may be a good or a bad thing...

Any tips and advice would be awesome, like I say this was just thrown together a bit.

don't be afraid to top up. I used to brew that way with small batches, its about the only way because the boil off can be over half of the batch size! So feel free to water it down to anywhere as low as 1.040...all to personal taste.

looks like it's going to be very rich and sweet, maybe overly so, especially with the 70c mash! the molasses should thin it out body wise a little, but you're looking at over 25% crystal/chocolate, which could be intense.

but often the accidents are the best beers, so don't let anybody boss you about into doing something you're not sure about  if it's too much, maybe you could blend it in the glass with something a little less offensive, with a bitter it'll make a porter that a regular person would brew
