14g fuggles @30 mins
28g styrian goldings @20 mins
28g styrian goldings @5 mins

Hopefully I should have my mash volume sorted this time round...

Should turn out similar to Hobgoblin... we'll see!

fyi I found batch sparging a lot easier to master regarding volume. for a target starting volume of 31l for example i measure the runnings from the first batch, and if thats 17l then 31-17 = 14, So i use -13-14l for the 2nd batch. There will be a liter or 2 which will run thru the bed slowly which you can capture in a jug during bringing the bulk to the boil, and you can use this to adjust should you need to.

At the moment, I'm not sure what I'm doing regarding the sparge. I just take my bag out, let it drain then transfer it to a kind of big sieve mesh over a bucket and slowly pour 10L of water at 74-77 celsius over the top, collecting the runnings.

I've currently worked out that using this method and starting with 25L mashing, I come out with 23L into my fermentor with a 90 minute boil and a little bit more with a 60 minute boil.

Just finished a great brewday!

Cheered me up after Derby lost to Forest... now I read that Clough has been sacked. Not sure how I feel!

Anyway, got me 22L of 1.048 wort. Pitched Nottingham yeast @ 24oC. Everything went to plan. The first time I've used such dark malts, looked great, like a big jug of gravy. I love gravy.

Smells great and the wort tastes nice, not too bitter.

Cheers everyone! :drink:
