Recently made my first bulk purchase of hops and grain(crystal malt) and therefore for the first time won't be immediately putting everything into a brew. Between brews what's the best way store hops and grain, the freezer? The hops came in vacuum packed bags, do i just put them into a sealed bag with as little air as possible.

I leave my grains in the bags and reseal then into a metal dustbin so critters can't get in as for hops I freeze them then just weigh out and add to the boiler as per recipe

+1 :thumb:

Buy a big thick dustbin or bin for the grains...and some mouse traps.

Hops go in the freezer on a shelf in their bags, taken out used as necessary and then replaced in freezer. ( traps not required ) :D

Try here some great options for grain storage. As for hops, if you buy in bulk break them down into manageable brew sizes (100g?) and use a food sealer then freeze.

25 kn just fits comfortably into a old type dusty bin

That's a great link! Anybody know if a 20KG sack of grain would fit into one of those 30lt barrels?

Just measured mine (can't remember the stated capacity) and it measures approx 600 high + lid (which comes with a rubber seal and metal clamp, nothing gets in nothing gets out) by just under 400 wide. Mine takes a full 25kg sack of malt. I brew in my cellar so I needed a bit more than the sack the malt came in as I was concerned about how easily malt "absorbs" what's in the atmosphere.

Here it is

And with close to a full sack of malt in it and showing the metal clamp.

Excellent, I think that's a little bigger than the one I was looking at from the link, which was 500mm high and 300 diameter, but I'll look back on the link for something similar.
