Hi all

I will reach to the clearing stage this week (from my first brew). So I will move bottles to the cold place, my garage is pretty bright, but I have a fridge & freezer that is of course is dark inside, and I can set the temperate for:
Freezer:-14, -18, -22....
Fridge: 8, 6, 4, 3, 2.

What temp should I pick? it might control the target value +/- 1 deg C.

Ahhh, the beer is a stout from MYO kit.

The colder the beer is, the quicker that the particulates will fall out of suspension. You just want to avoid freezing it; beer freezes at between -2°C and -4°C, depending on strength.

I normally set my fridge to 0°C, using an inkbird, to cold crash.

Well this happened to me yesterday, despite the temperature being consistently 1.6 degrees.

Has it cloged the tap? Looks to be really dense at the bottom, wasn't the beer good?

Yes, it was frozen at the back where the old fridge has a cooling panel and a couple of inches of Slush, lost about 10 litres.
I didn't want to thaw it as it would have been sat in air post fermentation so just dumped it, it was pretty solid as a day later its still a chunk of ice sat in the sun.
I had this problem before so regularly check the temperature with a digital thermometer so surprised to get caught out again.

I might put my fridge for 4 deg. Will be safer.

Tks

I believe the alcohol freezing point is lower then 0 for sure, but the residual at the bottom don't have so much alcohol, once it goes up.... Just a theory... And of it's not a frost free fridge it goes really lower than the temperature adjusted, on it turn on and off all the time to keep the average desired temp...

Strangely the liquid temperature at the front where I was measuring didn't go below 1.6 degrees, but looks like I need to rotate the FV regularly as well.

I partially froze mine whilst cold crashing once. It happened because the FV was touching the back of the fridge. (The same happens with beer lines in the kegerator if they are touching the back). I just left mine for a few hours with the lid on to defrost before kegging and the beer was none the worse for it. I just make sure the FV is moved forward a bit and off the back when in the brew fridge now.
