Does anyone use before bottling when looking for clarity ? I’ve only ever used in wine , cider has always cleared its self during conditioning.

Not used so far for my BIAB attempts , and #1 and 2 not been crystal clear so far. Used Irish moss in #3 and #4 so hoping that will give a clearer finish.

if bottling no need for any thing except time, doesnt take long to clear a beer in bottles, casks and barrels sometimes require clearing but normally i rack my beer from the inital fermenter to another fv, leave for another week then i bottle, seems to make all the difference when waiting for a clear brew

I only use Protofloc in the last 10 minutes of the boil and my beers are usually clear after conditioning in bottles for a few weeks.

I've tried fining bottled beers a very few times in the dark and distant past... and it's more trouble than it's worth, specifically in the form of a very loose sediment which billows up and re-clouds the beer as soon as you pop the cap! No, time is the answer; if it refuses to clear after say a month or so, suspended yeast is probably not your problem. Maybe there is something available these days that works, I don't know sorry.

I really depends on what causes the haze, proteins, polyphenols (tannins) or yeast. Finings in the boil remove extra proteins. I think most finings after racking also remove proteins. Racking after primary fermentation helps clear beer faster due to removal of yeast. Polyphenols (which might be astringent or not) can only be removed by time and a cool place.

Thanks - as suspected , time and the use of protofloc/Irish moss is the answer.
No other secrets of the trade out there then, I’ve seen some cracking photos of clear beers out there so hopefully mine will come !

I've used gelatin in my last few brews and it's worked a treat.

I only use bottles and I've had no issue with sediment, in fact there's hardly any and it carbs up as normal.

Did you chill it really hard before adding? I used gelatine a couple of years back in a keg and it never even started to clear, but I ignored all the advice about chilling first...

I used isinglass a couple of times after a heavy pellet dry hop, I find pellet residue really hard to settle out and always end up straining even if I leave it 4 weeks; the isinglass made no difference at all that I could see :-?
Next time I do an IPA I'm going to try gelatin to see how it goes because I hate having any more than a minimal sediment layer in the bottles

Yeah, shoulda said, I crash it down to -1 before using gelatin, usually clear within 24-48 hours.

Paul, how do you filter the wort before fermenting, I've just ventured into part mash and tip all the break material into the fv. It isn't much of an issue but I lose a bit to trub on bottling. Perhaps I could transfer to my bottling bucket a couple of days prior to bottling and chill?

Personally I’ve been leaving a lot of the crap behind in the boiler when transferring to FV and also run it through muslin cloth.

I’ve tried two methods so far before bottling:

Leave in primary for two weeks and then transfer to bottling bucket onto priming sugar the day bottling and the method for this batch.

Transferred to secondary after 7 days for dry hopping. Bottling that up on Monday.

Not sure if method 1 or 2 makes a difference I’ve had pros and cons for both.

I find leaving the break material behind difficult as I tip everything into the fv after cooling. I suppose letting it settle for a bit then running off through a tap would prevent this?? I might try siphoning to my bottling bucket a couple of days earlier..

That’s what I do mate , after the boil in Peco, empty from the tap into FV for cooling leaving the gunk behind.
