Hey guys,
@mickthetrick recently send me an old beer engine he wasn't using, and I've gone about restoring it.
Luckily the piston seal is still in good nick, so I haven't had to replace that - I couldn't find a replacement for it however I did find a suggestion somewhere on here of 1.5mm silicone sheeting, cut to size. I bought a sheet from eBay and cut out a circle and it actually worked really well. So i have that as a backup of the original seal ever gives up.
All the small o rings needed replaced - I was getting a lot of leakage around the top where the piston rod went in. Got a chunky o ring as part of a rolson 225 piece o ring set from Amazon for £6 which solved that.
It had no valve at all, and again I couldn't find one like it would have had without spending silly money on a seal kit which may or may not have fit, or buying a new cylinder... So I found this One Way Valve Sprung Plastic Barbed Non-Return Inline Water Air Car Gas Liquid | eBay one way spring closed valve for £3.50 on eBay, which I've fitted into the line right by the beer inlet, and it's working beautifully.
A bit of brasso for the brasswork and some Mr sheen for the plinth and it's looking great.
Some before and after pics attached.
