That's outrageous. Hope they don't come back. Or if they do, you spot them in time to put the hose on them.

The OH and I managed to get 15lb of elderberries the other weekend (took HOURS to prepare!) and approx. 15lb of a mixture of cherry plums and damsons.

I'm not sure how many blackberries I've collected yet, but I've been stopping for 10-15 minutes on my way to or from work and getting a pound or so at a time, most days over the course of a couple of weeks. They are all washed and frozen for now.

There are plenty of damsons to be had (if no-one beats me to them, and I have several sources) but I reckon they need at least another week or two yet.

There are also plenty of pears, but I haven't stopped to squeeze or bite one yet.

Some elderberries are ready, I will probably start gathering those at the weekend.

I like free ingredients :thumb:

Driving becomes hazardous at this time of year because I haven't yet developed the visual skills of an Apache helicopter pilot, to be able to have one eye on the road and the other on the hedgerows.

I have found the best elderberry tree ever unfortunately it is on a slip road onto the M60 so no chance.

I'm lucky, my 12 mile commute is almost entirely rural, slightly different routes out and back, and I have a choice of minor diversions which can take in other country lanes according to what I know is cropping and where.

At this time of year I always carry in my car an assortment of food tubs, storage boxes, a couple of old FVs, scissors, secateurs and sticks with hooks on the end.

:thumb: At Moley ! A man after my own heart. I cant pass a hedgerow without thinking (Mental note to self free ingredients).

Cheers DC

Too damn right :thumb:

“Turn off down here, elderberries are nearly ready, mind that bend, slow right down for the horse, speed up again and over the canal bridge, damsons noted, up this rise, mind the pothole, I spy rosehips, what was that bump? Check mirror, phew, only a cyclist, feck him, on up this lane, pears at 3 o'clock” ..... and so on.

I've just got me self a big freezer and can't find many elderberies except by the M60. Funny I clocked loads of blosom on elderberry trees but non of them have produced much fruit considering the weather I would have expected good fruit this year. Blackberries aren't bad but I need 5KG of elderberries for my elderberry Stout.
