What's the opinion out there if your batch sparging and near the end of the second run (with maximum water used) the brix is 7 - do you 1. leave alone as your target is met 2. go boil the kettle real quick and squeeze some more wort till it falls to 4 (sg 1.016)? :wha:

That's the way Batch Sparging works . . . unlike fly sparging where the gravity falls as you proceed through the sparge, Batch sparging has a 'constant' gravity for each batch.

If you have your target preboil volume at your target preboil gravity it has done its job . . . . why sparge further?

Seems like your efficiency was better than expected, which is a good thing as under sparging produces a better wort than over sparging ;)

Nice to have a compliment AM :thumb:
To be honest I got the temperature way out from my trial run,so ended up with a mash with 2 litres more hot water (which I deducted from the top-up volume) than I was supposed to as I compensated for temperature.I'm beginning to think that I'll duplicate the thin mash again as the yeald appears good, but there is always the fact that I did use 5% more grain for this method. The brew in the fermenter was 1.082.
