Hi

I am going to bottle my Directors clone next week into various different sized bottles. I was thinking of batch priming any ideas of how much sugar in grams should be added to 46L. It is in a secondry fermentor would it be better to rack again before adding the sugar. Any ideas?

The annoying part of batch priming is that I find you have to siphon the beer into another container because otherwise you will disturb the sediment. I find you have to mix fairly thoroughly, otherwise the sugar is not evenly distributed and you will end up with over and under carbonated bottles. :( :(

I find 7.2g / litre of sugar to give adequate carbonation. So for 46L I would add 331.2g of sugar.

Hope this helps. And GL

Hi,

I batch prime and I have been at most only racking 4 days on and then priming and stirring after another 3 days if the gravity's behaving (and similar to SOM's addition I add 8grams per litre),however I then leave for a good 4-6 hours to settle and then bottle. Admittedly, I do bottle straight from my bottling bucket with a "little bottler" device that makes things smoother.....and most sediment remains in the vessel until I get desperate for the last litre or so and tilt the vessel (sometimes too much  )

Happy bottling....we all enjoy that one.

Cheers once again. This forum is such a valuable resource. getting ready for my second brew next week. But don't know whether to do a stout or ipa?

Cheers AG

Hi
I batch prime and very gently stir in the liquid sugar. I've never had a single problem with uneven priming or sediment or exploding bottles.

You will have to teach me your stirring techniques. :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

I also batch prime - I rack off into a clean FV when bottling and for 23 litres of beer I personally have never used more than 80g sugar. Dissolve the sugar in some boiled water (about 200/300ml) Pour that into the bottom of the FV (or Barrel if kegging) then rack off onto the top of the sugar solution using a piece of tube that reaches right to the bottom of the FV to avoid aeration. The motion of the ale will mix the sugar in without the need for further stirring.......

There are no solutions... only problems.

Or is that the other way around?
:D

SOTM .. patience.... I don't know her ... (rest of post deleted to maintain high levels of good taste)
