Ive read Dunfie's previous post about batch priming for a 5 gallon/23 litre brew. he said he uses between 60-80g, dissolved in a half pint of water then adds to the brew. obviously its personal taste how much carbonation you like but there seems to be alot of different conversions.
I've used coopers carbonation drops in the past and I like the amount of carbonation they have, I've done a rough calculation that a 250gram bag holds 60 drops which works out around 4grams per drop, and if im bottling about 42 bottles that works out around 175grams of sugar.would this work or would be it be over carbed?
I also had a look at this calculator here - http://oz.craftbrewer.org/Library/Methods/BulkPriming/SimpleGuide.shtml and that seems quite a bit different.
its a 20 litre brew ive got and that recommends for medium carbonation a max of around 115-140
has anyone batch primed a coopers canadian blonde or coopers kit in general that could help with this?
cheers

Don't believe that Dunfie bloke - he knows nothing. :wha:

The figures I quoted are for an ale rather than a lager so you can certainly increase with too many problems. I did a wheat beer a couple of years ago and to acheive an authentic volume of CO2 I worked that I needed 225g per 23l. In the end I found this to be too much for my taste - infact one of the bottles also exploded.

So like most brewing it is a case of trial and error.

Dont forget the Coopers Drops may contain things other than actual sugar so the weight may not be a correct representation of sugar content.

I batch prime usually.
If I want an light carbonation I might go for about 80g for 25 litre.
If I want a refreshing brew with a fair fizz I'll go up to 160g.

When priming into bottles direct I still mix sugar and water to form syrup then measure into each bottle; saves cleaning a FV for batch priming but is a bit more fiddley. :hmm:

Note, this is only when I ferment the brew down till it stops.
