Hi all! I have an old brown plastic Boots pressure barrel for which I recently bought a new 4’’ cap as the old one was cracked. On pressure testing, c02 is leaking from the cap despite tightening it with a plastic barrel spanner.

Have any of you experienced the same but managed to resolve the problem?

Thanks

Is the thread pitch on the new cap identical to the old one
Are you sure you have not overtightened the cap (this can distort the gasket)?
Are all the mating surfaces in good condition?
Is the gasket in good condition?
Try a smear of Vaseline on the gasket.

I'd recommend PTFE tape, half a dozen winds works for me.
I also changed to the chunkier square section O ring.

Does your new top has a valve, if so is that where it's leaking from ?
I've got two of those old boots barrels, I use the original tops with just a pressure relief valve.
I bought a couple of new caps with pin valves for C02, one works ok the other leaked from new ( from the pin itself ).
I've found an initial priming with sugar will more than often last till the end of the barrel. If not I either reprime with a little sugar or replace the cap with the new one with the working pin valve and add C02.

Have a look at Hazelwood Brewery's guide for some decent advice

Thanks, I’ll check these points over 👍
